MONDAY, MARCH 26: A total of 55 athletes were named to Bermuda’s Carifta team Monday morning.

The Carifta Games will be held in Bermuda at the National Sports Centre on April 6 to 9.

Bermuda Track and Field Association president Donna Watson said: “I am pleased to announce the Carifta 2012 Team.

“The coaches along with the board have selected and approved 55 athletes for the Carifta Games. Based on the performances of the athletes this weekend I have no doubt Bermuda will be proud of the team that has been selected.

“We had some very intense competition this weekend and the athletes appear to be ready and with some fine tuning over the next two weeks we are ready to compete against the other countries in the Caribbean.

“We did not finish our deliberations until 11:30pm last evening as there was a lot of discussion with events where we had more than two athletes.

Fortunately we were able to accommodate most of the athletes who had tried out for more than 1 event. We selected some athletes who had not reached the standard but are very close and have shown commitment, determination and have been steadily improving.

“We are very proud of this team and feel they will perform, bring home medals as we have several medal contenders in this team and make Bermuda proud.

“We have also selected our coaching team, management team and have 2 physios and mental coach on board.”
