WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29: Café Continental restaurant manager Rory Johns knows customers are on the run at lunchtime and getting them their meals quickly is key.

Mr Johns has been at Café Continental for about two years.

The restaurant recently won an award from travel website TripAdvisor.

He said: “We’re moving in the right direction. I’ve been here about two years and we’ve made a few changes now. I’m hoping I was a big part of making that happen, but it wasn’t just me. The staff here have worked really hard. We have three or four guys upstairs and we have the guys downstairs. This is definitely a group effort.”

He said it was crucial to provide “good, fast efficient service. We have good food and we really try to place an emphasis on service.

“When people come through the door, we want them to get their menus right away, sit down, get their drinks ordered, their meals ordered and get their food to them and on their way out the door without being raced.

“Even if the customer is racing, we don’t want to race them, we want to serve them efficiently and help them get on their way.”

He added: “We just want to be efficient at everything we do. We don’t want to anyone looking for anything.

“You want your check? We already know that and your check is on the table. If your water is almost finished, we are going to fill it up before you even ask.

“These are the keys in this business.”

Mr Johns said because of that “We have a lot of repeat business because we are good at what we do here.”
