It is alleged Jay Dill, 23, and Devon Hewey, 22, shot and killed Randy Robinson, who was 22, on Border Lane, Devonshire, on March 31 last year.

The two are further charged with using a firearm to commit the offence.

Mr Robinson, who played for Devonshire Cougars and North Village Rams, also played for the Cape Breton University team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, when the team won their league in 2009.

Mr Dill, of Horseshoe Road, Southampton, and Mr Hewey, of Palmetto Road, Pembroke, made no plea at Magistrate’s Court as the case will be heard in Supreme Court.
