TUESDAY, JULY 31: The Governor, Mr George Fergusson, has appointed two Assistant Justices who will sit from time to time in civil and commercial cases over an initial period of one year.
These appointments have been made in consultation with the Chief Justice.
The new Assistant Justices are John E. Riihiluoma, an Appleby partner, and Narinder K. Hargun, a Conyers Dill and Pearman partner. They have both previously been appointed to act as Puisne Judges.
Their selection will not only in the short term strengthen the resources of Bermuda's Commercial Court and the civil jurisdiction as a whole.
It is hoped that similar appointments on a regular basis will encourage senior practitioners to take up permanent judicial appointments in the future and consolidate the long-term stability of Bermuda's Judiciary. The appointments carry nominal sitting fees.
