THURSDAY, AUGUST 2: Somerset still have their destiny in their own hands at the end of the first day of the Cup Match weekend.

The home side will need a quick start when they take the crease tomorrow morning and will be hoping to put the pressure straight back on to their opponents.

St George's quietly accumulated a score of just over 200 in their first innings, which was interupted by sporadic showers.

The Blue and Blues will probably be thinking they should have put the game beyond their hosts but the Somerset boys picked up wickets at crucial intervals.

Somerset started their innings in determined fashion and were committed to not give their wickets away easily.

The openers played patiently and slowly accumulated a decent score but two quick wickets put the home side on the back foot.

There is every chance that Somerset could come out roaring tomorrow, but they will have to notch up some big runs on the board if they are to stand a chance in this game.

St George's will be well aware that all they have to do is do the basics well and they will be be in pole position to keep hold of the precious silverware and retain the trophy.

There's all to play for tomorrow but Somerset need to start with a bang if they have any chance of upsetting the odds.
