THURSDAY, DEC. 30: A ship has been diverted to Bermuda following the death of its captain and chief engineer.

And the vessel’s chief officer is said to be seriously injured.

Bermuda Maritime Operations were contacted by agents for the Greek ship Aegean Angel.

According to a statement, the ship was on a voyage from Talin in Estonia to Houston, Texas, with fuel oil on board.

The statement said: “The accident occurred when ships senior officers decided to make an inspection of the deck areas to check for damage after the passage of some heavy weather.

“Unfortunately during the inspection, a large wave hit the vessel and killed the captain and chief engineer whilst leaving the chief officer seriously injured.”

The ship is expected to arrive off Bermuda early Monday morning.

Bermuda Maritime Operations is also awaiting the arrival of the vessel ER Brighton, which will be landing a member of crew Friday morning who sustained a serious laceration to his arm during cargo securing operations in bad weather.
