WEDNESDAY, DEC. 16: Shots were fired on Court Street just after 10:30 this morning outside the CnR Discount Store.

A gun-man approached on foot and fired at someone standing outside the store, before running away down Elliot Street and jumping on the back of a waiting black Scoopy scooter, witnesses said.

Police said they arrested a man later today in connection with this shooting.

Police said no one had been hit.

The incident occurred at the same location of a shooting back in May where two men were shot.

The intended victim was said to have run the length of Court Street to take shelter in the Magistrates Court.

One bystander said he heard the shots and then saw a short, dark skinned guy, around 5ft 3in, with the bottom half of his face covered, running down Elliot Street with a gun in his hand.

Another bystander said they had seen him jump on the back of a waiting bike - thought to be a black Honda Scoopy - and take a right turn on Angle Street.

Within minutes the area was flooded with police and a man was later arrested on Parsons Road. However police are not linking him to the shooting.

The area around the store was cordoned off as officers in bullet-proof vests stood guard next to a row of children's bicycles on sale for Christmas.

Officers marked the spot where three separate shell casings were found on the road in front of the store.

Acting Chief Inspector Calvin Smith convened a mini press conference inside the Authentic Bermuda Cuisine restaurant just opposite, telling the media that the shooting was likely linked to two shootings last night, one resulting in the death of a 22-year-old man.

"It's too early to say anything definitive but you can see from where the shooting is taking place that it's possible."

Police said tonight the top priority for the Service remains catching and convicting the persons responsible and reducing the violence. Gun violence in Bermuda has resulted in 16 people being injured so far this year, tragically three of them suffering fatal wounds. There were a large number of potential witnesses in and around Court Street this morning who might have information that will be valuable to investigators. Anyone who witnessed that incident is encouraged to contact Police as well as anyone who saw two men dressed in dark clothing approaching or leaving the area on a motorcycle at 10:30 this morning.
