WEDNESDAY, JULY 25: A 41-year-old man who assaulted his girlfriend but said he was too drunk to remember it admitted the offence incourt today.

Troy Harris, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty to assaulting Tuere Ottley on July 20 in Pembroke.

The court heard Ms Ottley and Harris returned to his home at 7:30pm that night after drinking in Hamilton. An altercation began, with Harris calling the complainant a b***h, slut and whore.

Crown counsel Karen King said the argument continued and Harris pushed Ms Ottley in the head causing her to fall to the ground.

He then hit her and began to strangle her while saying, “I’m in a killing mood.”

Ms Ottley pushed Harris in the head and then reported the matter to police. Harris was arrested days after the incident.

Addressing the court, Harris said: “I didn’t push her on the floor and hit her in the head.

“She was sitting down.”

But Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked: “Didn’t you tell the police you were drinking and can’t remember?”

Harris said: “I didn’t push her down.”

He then said: “I am just pleading guilty because I have no recollection.”

Mr Warner adjourned the matter to the Drug Treatment Court and remanded Harris into custody.
