MONDAY, JULY 2: Hopes of keeping a threatened ferry service have been sunk.
The Department of Marine and Ports announced that the 7:55am Rockaway to Hamilton service would no longer run, starting today.
A spokesman for Marine and Ports said: “The Department of Marine and Ports in conjunction with the Department of Communication and Information wishes to apologise for failing to notify the public in a timely manner about this change.”
The end of the service was proposed earlier this year but called in for review by then-Minister of Transport Derrick Burgess, who consulted with passengers.
But now it has been decided the service has to go.
The spokesman added that an alternative departure is available from nearby Dockyard to Hamilton and would run at 8am each weekday over the summer.
He said: “The Department of Marine and Ports apologises for any inconvenience that this may cause and wishes to thank Sea Express passengers for their continued support.”
