SUNDAY, MAY 1, 8AM UPDATE: A 22-year-old man was shot and killed in the early hours of this morning.

Police confirmed the murder took place near Overview Hill on North Shore, Pembroke.

Assistant Commissioner David Mirfield said: “Around 3:50am Sunday, May 1, police and first responders attended a report of a confirmed firearm incident in the North Shore Road, Overview Hill Pembroke area.

“On arrival it was ascertained that a 22-year-old man was shot.

“He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he died as a result of his injuries.

 “Officers from the Forensic Support Unit and the Serious Crime Unit are currently processing the scene.”

He continued: “Detectives are also working closely with the victim’s family.

“Initial inquiries suggest that the victim may not have been the intended targe t.

“The Bermuda Police Service has launched an investigation into this deplorable act and we are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact police on 295-0011 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.

“No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified.

The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

“This is the fifth fatal shooting this year and clearly a situation that the police are taking extremely seriously as we continue our investigations into this incident as well as the other murders.”
