WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15: Tomorrow, (Thursday, February 16), Bermuda will once again take over the iconic Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal for a high-profile “Experience Bermuda Day.”
As part of the Bermuda Department of Tourism’s (BDOT) intense marketing push in North America, “Experience Bermuda Day” will offer commuters a taste of the Island through live entertainment, sampling of Bermudian cuisine, golf and spa experiences, performances by local musicians “Prestige” and the H&H Gombey Cultural Dance Troupe, as well as an array of prize-trip giveaways.
Bermuda’s own popular radio personality, Kristy Burgess also known as “Miss Thang” from HOTT 107.5 FM, will be serving as the emcee throughout the day’s events.
Jana Lynn Outerbridge, Miss Bermuda 2011 will also have a presence at the event.
Today the Minister of Business Development and Tourism, the Hon. Wayne Furbert, JP, MP, said, “This event is a great way to bring a taste of Bermuda to our largest market and, in turn, encourage consumers to come to the island and experience it for themselves.
“By having this event in Grand Central Terminal, we will be in front of literally thousands of consumers throughout the day to entice them to visit.”
WCBS-FM radio will broadcast the popular “Dan Taylor Morning Show” live from Vanderbilt Hall in the morning and host a special “Trip a Day” promotion where listeners can win a vacation for two to Bermuda.
Among the guests on the show in attendance will be a special appearance by Billy J. Kramer, one of the most popular rockers of the 1960s British Invasion. Kramer will be performing in Bermuda as the feature entertainer during the destination’s first-ever College Week Reunion, taking place on island March 15-18, 2012.
In addition, Fresh102.7 FM personalities Jim Douglas and Kim Berk will also be on hand to interact with visitors between noon – 2.00 p.m.
Visitors can have their pictures taken next to one of Bermuda’s pink Vespa scooters, as well as have the opportunity to dance their way to the island in a web contest that will place them “virtually” in Bermuda.
Visitors to Vanderbilt Hall can also take part in a fun and innovative “augmented reality” Bermuda experience that will leave them amazed. The day will culminate with a Bermuda shorts runway contest where participants will have the opportunity to show off their legs with a walk on the Bermuda Pink Beach Runway for the chance to win a trip for two to the Island.
As part of “Experience Bermuda” day, Bermuda representatives and hoteliers will have one-on-one conversations with prospective travellers on topics ranging from Bermuda’s natural beauty to its culinary scene and outdoor adventures.
