MONDAY, JULY 16: Fears are growing for the safety of missing Rudy Smith after his bike was pulled from the sea on Monday morning.

Mr Smith, 39, of Pembroke has not been seen since July 9 and was reported missing by his family two days later.

This morning at around 10am police officers and a Police Dive Team descended a stretch of coastline behind Grace Church on North Shore Road and pulled Mr Smith’s motorbike from the water.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Pedro, from the Serious Crime Unit, said that other bikes, not connected with the investigation, were also taken from the sea.

He added: “This morning, following a phone call from a member of the public, Mr. Smith’s last known mode of transportation was located in the waters in front of Grace Church on North Shore, Pembroke.
 
“A Police Dive Team was activated, and has been searching these waters for any other items that may assist in locating Mr. SMITH.  
 
“A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed by the Bermuda Police Service, to keep the family updated with any developments in the case.”

Chief Insp Pedro told the Bermuda Sun that Mr Smith’s motorcycle would be subjected to forensic testing.

He added: “We continue to be very concerned for Mr Smith’s safety, and we are actively progressing all avenues of information that may assist in determining where he may be, or what may have happened to him since he was last seen.
 
“I would like to urge any member of the public that may know something about this matter that has not already spoken to the Police to come forward and assist.”

The Bermuda Police Service continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Rudolph – also known as RUDY – Lamar SMITH

Mr. SMITH is 39 years old and resides in the Border Lane area of Pembroke.

Mr. SMITH was reported as being missing by family members on Wednesday 11th July, 2012. Investigations were immediately commenced by investigators, who set about tracing his most recent movements and speaking with persons who last saw him.

To date, the Bermuda Police Service has interviewed several persons who have either provided written statements or given verbal information.

Efforts have continued to locate Mr. SMITH’s transportation and also examining other evidence available to the investigators. This morning, following a phone call from a member of the public, Mr. SMITH’s last known mode of transportation was located in the waters in front of GRACE CHURCH on North Shore, Pembroke.
