FRIDAY, JUNE 29: “I go to sleep hoping that I will wake up in my own bed,’ says Kellan Lewis.
The 20-year-old was jailed for 12 years in 2011 after he was found guilty of the manslaughter of Kellon Hill.
Mr Hill was stabbed during a fight near Elbow Beach where Lewis and a group of his friends were. He died before he could reach hospital.
Yesterday Lewis explained that life in Westgate was a constant battle.
He added: “When you come here you lose everything.
“Everything is just hanging by a piece of thread.
“It’s not like you are having fun just doing your time.
“I would not say this place is a hotel. Everyday you are looking out of your cell listening to everyone talking.
“You come up here and you deal with everyone’s personality.
“One guy may work up an argument.
“This is what I am confronted with on a daily basis.
“I wake up and I am back to this again.
“The message I would give is if you doing things that will get you in here, just think about it. It was the choices I made that put me in here.”
