WEDNESDAY, JULY 4: Johnny Barnes has assured islanders he is ‘just fine’ after he collapsed at the Crow Lane Roundabout this morning.
The island’s goodwill ambassador told the Bermuda Sun he fell down as he waved commuters into Hamilton at around 9:30am and could not get up again.
An ambulance crew attended the scene, but the 89-year-old told the EMTs he did not need to go to hospital.
He said: “I feel beautiful. I am just fine.
“I have had a bad knee for quite a while since I had an operation a few years ago and it still causes me problems.
“I just fell over and could not get up again.
“People came to help me and they said I should wait until an ambulance checked me out.
“The ambulance arrived quite quickly and checked my blood pressure and all those things.
“I told them I was fine and I will be back telling people I love them tomorrow morning.”
