MONDAY, JULY 25: An American tourist has been fined after customs officers discovered cannabis cigarettes in his cruise cabin.
Richard Battistella had 13 cannabis cigarettes in his bedside table on board the Explorer of the Seas.
The 39-year-old was arrested after the customs sniffer dog led officers to his cabin.
Today at Magistrates’ Court Battistella, who comes from New Jersey, was fined $3,000.
He admitted importing a controlled drug.
Battistella told the court: “I made a big mistake. It will not happen again.
“When I was arrested I was truthful, honest and respectful.
“I would just like to apologise.”
