THURSDAY, JULY 26: A Sandys man was today jailed for 18 months after he admitted punching a woman and escaping police custody.
Troy Harris, 21, also admitted breaking into a house on May 15 and causing damage to a window.
The next day, he went to the Government Administration Building and punched Markel Smith in the mouth during an argument over a cell phone.
He was arrested on May 27 for the attack, but escaped custody.
Police later found Harris hiding behind a bush by Place’s Place on Dundonald Street.
In court today, Harris said: “I really don’t have nothing to say.
“I just apologise for the situation that I did get myself into.
“I don’t think anything’s good about me, that’s why I don’t say anything good about me.”
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner then said: “This is not a question of making one mistake.
“It’s over and over and everybody is trying to help you.”
Harris was given 18 months for breaking into the house, three months for damaging the window, 12 months from punching Ms Smith and three months for escaping custody.
All sentences are to run concurrent.
