TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11: Two American women appeared in court today charged with smuggling $406,550 of cannabis resin into Bermuda.

Alloah Jaton Releford, 23, and Latoya Nicole Powell, 27, were charged in Magistrates’ Court with conspiring with others, not before the courts, to import cannabis resin into Bermuda between a date unknown and October 8.

The women were not required to enter pleas as the matter is indictable and must be heard in the Supreme Court.

The court heard the women arrived in Bermuda on board the Carnival Fantasy and the drugs were allegedly strapped to them.

The amount of drugs was 2.7 kilos.

Ms Releford, of Temple, Georgia, and Ms Powell, of Marietta, Georgia, were unrepresented.

They were both remanded into custody for two weeks.
