OPENING OF THE 2011/12 LOBSTER SEASON
The 2011/12 Spiny Lobster season opened on September 1, 2011 and will remain open until March 31, 2012. Only those persons in possession of 2011/12 lobster licenses issued by the Department of Environmental Protection are permitted to take lobsters.
Owners of establishments that sell imported lobsters are reminded of the Fisheries Regulation 19 (3) which requires that all imported fish (which includes lobster) intended or exhibited for sale as imported fish/lobster, shall be clearly identified as imported; every invoice, advertisement or label on the packaged fish/lobster, restaurant menu cards or signs exhibited in stores shall clearly state that the fish/lobster is imported.
The practice of some restaurants in advertising and selling imported spiny lobsters as “Bermuda style lobster” is misrepresentation and in contravention of the Fisheries Regulations.
