WEDNESDAY, FEB 29: Stars of the silver screen descended on The Deep nightclub this weekend to celebrate the Oscars.
Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe-lookalikes were among the guests at ‘Live from the Red Carpet’, a night of glitz and glamour organized by the Bermuda International Film Festival (BIFF) and MEF Enterprises Ltd.
Arriving guests were asked to pose for official photographs on the red carpet, Hollywood-style, before taking their seats to watch live footage of the real thing.
They were also invited to cast their votes for the Best and Worst Dressed, and Most Scandalous, among the celebrities arriving at the 84th Annual Academy Awards. Winners: Gwyneth Paltrow, Sandra Bullock and Sacha Baron Cohen.
The special-themed cocktails of the night included Oscar’s, Golden Day and Red Carpet. And the fun and games continued with an Oscars form of Bingo and a trivia quiz.
Guests could win prizes of BIFF film tickets for correctly guessing the winners of various Oscars of the night, and there were also prizes for the ‘Most Glamorous Outfit’ and ‘Best Costume’. More than 100 people attended the party, at Elbow Beach, and funds raised will go towards this year’s BIFF.
Callee Frith, BIFF’s special events director, said: “For our first-ever Oscar-themed party at The Deep, we were delighted to sell all 125 tickets days in advance and actually even had a waiting list in the end.
“There was a superb atmosphere on the night and a number of guests decided to dress up.”
BIFF also held a Patrons and Members’ party on Friday, with preview screenings of a selection of BIFF 2012 shorts. A BIFFlix screening of A Woman in the Fifth at BUEI on Saturday was also well-
Ms Frith said: “With the support of a number of partners we were able to put on all the events at next to no cost and achieve what we set out to do — fundraise for BIFF 2012.
“Our heartfelt thanks goes to Theresa Chatfield and the team at MEF, Burrows Lightbourn, Buzz Cafe, M&M International, Class Act Designs, Soho Applications, Barritts and Bistro Muse.
“We are also very grateful to Kelvin Hastings-Smith, our emcee for our ‘Live from the Red Carpet’ event, who did a superb job, and our fantastic team of volunteers.
“With just under three weeks to go until the main event, the 15th Annual Bermuda International Film Festival on March 16 to 22, we hope we have sufficiently wowed the crowds and got them ready and waiting for the lights, camera, action.”
