WEDNESDAY, MAR. 21: Bersalon at The Club at Elbow Beach offers an extensive choice of hair and beauty treatments including facials, body treatments, mani and pedicures, massages, waxing, make-up and reflexology.

There are even treatments ‘Just for Men’ if you want your partner styled and groomed.

Spa packages and combo treatments will wash your cares away as you relax in the hands of the therapists.

My spa experience began with a Swedish massage with senior beauty therapist Helen Scarborough.

Helen tailors each massage to the client’s needs and concentrated on my back, neck and shoulders, using almond oil with a few drops of an anti-stress essential oil.

I could feel Helen rolling out the knots in my shoulders and by the time of my facial, I was so relaxed I was drifting off to sleep.

As someone who doesn’t take enough care of their skin by following a daily routine, the Guinot ‘Beaute Neuve’ facial was a real treat.

Helen explained that my skin was quite dry but the peeling treatment would rejuvenate the skin cells and strengthen the collagen, helping to retain moisture.

The ‘Beaute Neuve’ follows three stages. First, a ‘Peel ‘In’ gel containing fruit acids separates the dead cells from the living. The ‘Peel ‘Out’ foam then exfoliates dead cells away.

It’s actually a very pleasant experience and the fruity products smell good enough to eat.

Not only does this facial help people with dry skin but it is also popular with brides-to-be seeking a radiant, even-skin tone on their wedding day.

The second stage is the ‘Dermanove’ regenerating serum, massaged into the face. This contains fruit enzymes and acids which help the cells to regenerate.

To conclude, a ‘Clarimasque’ mask of pure vitamin C then regenerates the skin’s elastic fibres, leaving it radiant.

Helen said this is a great anti-ageing treatment because it strengthens up the collagen we lose as we get older.

Over a course of three treatments, it can also help to reduce pigmentation marks.

At the end of the facial my skin was radiating a healthy glow and Helen advised me on daily beauty care tips.

Then it was out of the treatment room and into the nail salon, which is relaxing, light and airy, with comfy sofas and views across to Elbow Beach resort.

The Zen Spa Pedicure begins with a footbath to soften any hard skin. You can choose from aromatherapy flavours ranging from calming to energizing, depending on what mood you are in.

The therapist then pushes back cuticles and exfoliates any dead skin cells.

Moisturizer is then applied and you can choose from heated booties to help lock in the moisture or a cooling foot mask.

I opted for the Smurf-like booties which made my feet feel really cosy and warm.

The therapist then applies a base coat and a top coat of your choice from the Jessica range of products.

By the end of my pedicure I was feeling like a million dollars, and my luxurious afternoon then concluded with a wash and blow dry at the hair salon.

It’s also a lovely experience to have your hair done as you gaze out of the windows overlooking the South Shore. Watching the ocean waves beats sitting in a city salon any day.

Lorrae Edwards, stylist and salon manager, also gave me some tips on new looks for my hair, such as applying a curl definition cream to bring out my own waves.

This afternoon though, she blew my hair out straight and flat-pressed it for a glamorous look.

I would recommend Bersalon at The Club to anyone wanting a relaxing getaway from the city.

The friendly, professional staff and beautiful ocean views help soothe your cares away.
