THURSDAY, SEPT. 27: A 40-year-old woman today admitted illegally breeding dogs.

Wendy Francis of Warwick pleaded guilty to breeding a Shih Tzu known as Asia between a date unknown and June 29 when not the holder of a license.

She also admitted keeping five dogs at her home without permission of the Director of Environmental Protection.

Crown counsel Karen King told the court the department received information that there was a litter of eight-week old puppies for sale by Francis.

After doing a check, they found out she didn’t have a current breeder’s license for her address.

She had a license for a different address but that had expired on December 1, 2011.

Ms King said on June 29, animal wardens went to her South Shore, Warwick home with a warrant to seize the dogs.

They knocked on the door but no one answered.

The wardens could see four puppies in a playpen on the floor through a window.

Police arrived at the property and the four puppies and their mother were seized.

Francis was arrested on July 3.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave her a $400 fine for each count.
