Read the ‘Green and Oolong Tea’ menu at My Sereni-Tea. Its subtle ‘notes’, euphoric blends and floral undertones transport you to the perfumer’s retreat.
Its pairing of flavours introduces a parallel in the delectable suggestions of a sommelier. The careful aging and Rx of several brews recall the benefits of a recipe for healthy living.
The panoply of choices on this menu alone presents a challenge. Which green or oolong tea will you choose?
Will you sip the orchid finished Oolong Wu Yi and inhale its sweet cup fragrance, or will you lose yourself in the aromatic Lotus Green?
But wait. Leaf through My Sereni-Tea’s black, white and red teas menu.
It has English breakfast tea and Earl Greys, but it also has the rich dark colour and bold aroma of Ancient Forest tea from China’s Yunnan province.
Look for the mildly tart Raspberry Litchi, or the richly satisfying toffee chocolate hazelnut tea.
The menu offers this description: “We mix our own buttery toffee piece with roasted hand-milled hazelnuts and flakes of dark chocolate into a smoky and full-bodied Yunnan black tea and serve over ice with sliced limes as a refreshment.”
Among the white teas, the menu lists the anti-oxidant packed Silver Needles and the handpicked and sun-dried White Peony.
The warm, spicy, exotic Firefly Chai is a red tea containing ginger root, cinnamon, cloves and more, while the naturally caffeine-free Gingersnap Rooibos is a mouth-watering herbal blend also in the ‘red zone’.
Uplifting
Holistic and herbal teas march down the page of My Sereni-Tea’s third menu. You’ve heard of peppermint and lemongrass teas, but what about the Blossoms of Health tea with its spirited, uplifting and energizing floral blends, including gingko leaves, red clover and other infusions?
FairyTale, Memory Zest and Wise Woman teas are also listed among the calming, balancing and mentally refreshing beverages that celebrate the senses and relax the mind.
The teas on each of these menus are certified organic and can be enjoyed in-house by cup or pot, or taken away in tins, or in different sized pouches of loose tea.
My Sereni-Tea also boasts a fourth menu, which lists the new flavours it has received.
On it you’ll find enticements like Blueberry Cheesecake, Papaya Mint and White Chocolate Cream teas.
So, which of the specialty teas will you order?
Which for in-house? Which for take-out? Try them all.
Bermuda is not too small to support a specialty teashop, according to the owner of My Sereni-Tea, Deryn Higgins.
“It is not,” she said, “because the number of people that have come in here and said, ‘Thank goodness, a teashop. We’re sick of coffee houses.’ If you can have I don’t know how many coffee houses we’ve got here, why can’t we have a teashop?”
