WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25: A multinational cosmetics company is to sponsor the next Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) island-wide clean-up.
The KBB Spring Clean-up takes place in various locations across Bermuda on May 12.
This year it will be sponsored by Garnier, a cosmetics brand of L’Oreal, which produces hair and skincare products.
Jenika McKinnie, BGA health and beauty brand manager, said: “It’s important to be socially and environmentally responsible, and this is something Garnier is trying to do.”
Mrs McKinnie said the Fructis brand has a new line of biodegradable shampoo and conditioner, named Pure Clean, which was launched last year.
She said: “It is 92 per cent biodegradable. The product doesn’t leave a residue.”
It also has no silicones, no parabens and no dyes, and the containers are 50 per cent recycled plastic.
BGA are to run a series of in-store promotions for the products at which it will also encourage people to sign up for the KBB clean-up.
There will be sample giveaways and the volunteers who sign up will receive a free T-shirt and lime green colour trash bags — the colour of Garnier’s Fructis brand of haircare products.
“This is the first time Garnier has sponsored an event in Bermuda and company representatives say they are excited about coming to the island to take part in the clean-up itself.
“It also helps us to get the brand name out there as well.”
KBB is also signing up volunteers for the Spring Clean-up.
To take part, all you have to do is get a group of volunteers together, such as family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues, and choose a target area.
KBB will provide gloves, trash bags and blue recycling bags, and will also arrange for its pick-up.
Decide on a time in the morning or afternoon. You can also schedule for Sunday, May 13, if you prefer.
The next step is to call KBB on 295-5142 to register your location. You can also ask to be assigned to a location.
Once you have completed the clean-up, call KBB to report the number of trash bags collected and any bulk waste items, to be collected.
Students taking part in the clean-up can receive credit for Community Service.
