The sea has always inspired romance and wonder, so why not take the plunge and tie the knot at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI)?
Couples looking for an unusual and adventurous location will find everything they need at the museum on the outskirts of Hamilton.
BUEI was already a popular venue for community functions, but recently we opened its doors for weddings after receiving requests from brides-to-be.
In wanting us to accommodate their ‘special day’, they recognize that we have a beautiful centrally-located facility, with one of Bermuda’s top restaurants on-site (Harbourfront) and space for a small private group setting.
We recently experimented in transforming the museum into a ‘wedding venue’.
The Mezzanine level is mainly used for board meetings and special dinners but we transformed it into an enchanting, fairytale setting.
Our vision was also brought to life by Lisa Holroyd of Designer Flowers and her innovative team.
For the wedding ceremony, we arranged seating for 40 guests in the Overlook Lounge.
We created a rice paper aisle with dazzling floral arrangements and an archway decorated with lights and colourful shells.
Delicate strands of ribbon cascaded from the ceiling, adding to the magical ambience.
The Royal Caribbean Room, which had the buffet/carving station, was adorned with lush floral and fruit displays to suit the occasion.
A separate signature table displayed an exquisite wedding cake, courtesy of Juliette J Jackson of Triple J’s Products.
In the Cable & Wireless Room we then decorated three tables with glass vases filled with seashells and exotic flowers, for the evening dinner.
We also have other creative areas for you to consider at BUEI.
Why not travel down ‘Memory Lane’ and share home movies and photographs with your guests in the Tradewinds Auditorium.
The Main Lobby can also host 100 guests for a candlelit, sit-down dinner, or 175 guests for a fun cocktail reception.
As an alternative the Lower Lobby can host 70 for a sit-down dinner or 75 for a cocktail reception.
Another beautiful environment in which to relax and have drinks is the Shell Room, which holds one of the world’s largest shell collections.
There are also two floors of exhibits in which to host a reception. These include a Shipwreck Gallery and a Treasure Room, as well as a shark cage.
The museum also has areas dedicated to bioluminescence, marine biology, deep-ocean ecology and the technology of underwater exploration.
The award-winning on-site Harbourfront Restaurant caters for all events, so you can be sure of a high quality of food and service.
BUEI was also awarded The Bermudian’s Product and Service Award 2011 for best Off-site Meeting Facility.
We feel this speaks volumes on the level of service and attention to detail that we can offer.
So, for those of you who want to create treasured memories that will last a lifetime, BUEI welcomes you.
