Atlantic Building Supplies is a new company which is bucking the trend of downsizing, lay-offs and business contraction in the recession.
The firm is opening up a new retail and wholesale building supplies showroom and warehouse on North Shore Road, behind the Terceira RUBiS gas station.
Atlantic Building Supplies is a subsidiary of Atlantic Ceilings Ltd — a market leader in acoustic ceilings and drywall products.
The new showroom and warehouse will also house Atlantic Ceilings, Turnkey Services Ltd and Turnkey Scaffolding Ltd, offering clients a one-stop location for all their contracting and home renovation needs.
Business owner Werner Stegmann said: “This is a strategic part of our growth. What we have seen over the past two years is that our customers are continuously looking for products that can help to reduce labour costs, improve efficiency and ultimately improve their bottom lines, and we are committed to providing those quality products at the best price possible.
Extensive lines
“Atlantic Ceilings has always provided quality contractor materials at a reasonable price out of our St Mark’s Road warehouse, but with the continued recession, our customers are demanding more convenience and a wider range of materials at a better price.
“We have spent the last two years developing a business model that allows us to source and import a wide range of building materials and specialty tools at some of the best prices Bermuda has ever seen.
“We then needed to find a location that was more convenient for our clients and we were fortunate to be able to find this location.
“We have been working on customizing the space for optimal efficiency for the last four months and once we are finished, we look forward to hosting a Grand Opening.”
Atlantic Building Supplies stocks more than 20 types of quality drywall from Cemex, National, USG, USG Stud and Track, and Hilti Firestop.
It has a wide range of insulation products, joint compounds, bead, wall angle, clips, hanger wire, hydro trim, corner trim, screws, stud and track, top hat, carrying channel, as well as No-Coat products.
The business will also stock an extensive line of construction safety products and durable work wear, plus rental tools.
Mr Stegmann said: “We are particularly excited about some of the new and innovative drywall products we are carrying, such as Ultralight, Fireguard and Moisture Guard, HiFlex, Tile Backer and Abuse Resistant Drywall.
“Products such as these enable contractors and DIY enthusiasts to reduce the amount of time and labour needed, thereby reducing costs for the homeowner, and increasing profits for the contractor.
“We will also be adding new services for our clients, such as rentals of professional equipment for drywall installation.”
Atlantic Ceilings will continue to carry Armstrong ceiling tiles and grid, USG ceiling tile, Chicago Metallic grid, Hilti hangers and accessories. It also has Bermuda’s only two CHES-certified Infection Control Technicians.
It will also continue to distribute Norkan Infection Control products, including HEPA, carbon, ring and panel filters, flex duct, fire-rated poly sheeting, sticky mats, protective film, and floor and carpet protection.
Mr Stegmann said: “Dust and contaminant abatement and infection control procedures are a crucial part of any construction or renovation activity for both residential and commercial applications.
“Whether you need to protect patients and staff in a doctor’s or dentist’s office, or you need to protect sensitive electronic or computer equipment in a commercial office, reducing dust and potentially hazardous airborne particles is a necessity.
“Our professional team will supply and install high-efficiency, HEPA-filtered portable air scrubbers, mobile containment barriers, additional particle control products and laboratory-certified measurement devices to effectively isolate, capture and control airborne dust particles and pathogens.
“Our cost-effective and time saving products are used today by contractors and maintenance departments in both residential and industrial offices, and healthcare facilities, to help protect people and equipment from exposure to construction particles.
“Atlantic Ceilings particle control products also increase productivity and reduce clean-up time during and after the project.”
