Digicel has slashed the price of its 2Mb Internet service in half. The company is now offering it at $30 per month, down from $60.

It has also dropped its 1Mb service.

Price changes include 4Mb from $90 to $40, 6Mb from $109 to $50, 8Mb from $119 to $60, 10Mb from $129 to $70, 15Mb from $149 to $90 and 25Mb from $199 to $150.

Wayne Caines, Digicel Bermuda CEO, said in a press release: “When Digicel first purchased Transact and started offering home Internet in November 2011, we told the public that we intended to bring prices down by enhancing competition.

“Within two months, annual internet rates were up to $130 lower for the same speeds.

“We have continued to knock down Internet prices, leading the competition in our goal to make internet more affordable for the average Bermudian. Our new, reduced rates demonstrate this commitment. An 8 Mb plan, which our competitors were selling for $129.95 per month in 2011, is now available for just $70 per month. There is no denying that Digicel has knocked down Internet prices drastically.”

The company said customers switching to them for Internet will get the first three months of their home Internet service free upon signing up for one of the new plans. Current Digicel Internet customers are encouraged to call 500-5000 or to e-mail info.bermuda@digicelgroup.com to switch to the new plans.

Mr Caines ended: “By calling or sending us an e-mail, customers can specify if they wish to stay at the same speed and pay less, or if they wish to pay the same – or slightly less – and receive faster service.”
