FRIDAY, DEC. 14: Former UBP MP Erwin Adderley uses a Bermudian turn of phrase when describing some of the candidates running in this election: “They are not all Cup Match material”.

What he sees as a lack of adequate representation, in his opinion, might give the independents a chance.

“When I put my name forward out here they (the constituents) said they thought I was the best candidate but asked: ‘What can an independent do for us? You are a lone voice crying in the wilderness’. Some said a vote for an independent is a vote for PLP and not change.

“I think that was a sentiment that had some interest in the beginning but I think they are beginning to recognize two things — that the OBA might not win and that there may end up being a split — the outcome might be very close and it may well be that a few independents could be carrying the balance of power.”

He added: “One of the things I would begin to look at is trying to resurrect the tourism industry which is important, but not starting from where they (the PLP) are starting now.”
