The Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation community centres offer summer camp programmes to a variety of age groups from primary to high school.

As with all programmes offered by the department, the camps are designed around the six pillars of character; Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

The Character Counts! model is a wonderful way to encourage children to work hard on their own character.

Throughout the camp, the children will participate in activities while learning about the six pillars, this intentional character education is a key strategy of the department programmes and is a vital component in the development of Bermuda’s young people.

The community centres know that children are looking for fun.

We also know that parents are looking for children to be safe and supported by caring adults.

We offer all of the above with the added bonus of helping children to make safe and sound choices, make friends and build real relationships.

All counsellors in charge of children are trained and oriented in the delivery of the programme; all camps have CPR/First aid certified staff on hand and safety alongside and around the water is always a priority.

Children participating in the summer programme will experience field trips, swimming, movies, sports, music, games, crafts, guest speakers and free play.

Parents can rest assured that the children will ‘rest’ well every night!

Camp Pequot

Camp Pequot is an exciting aquatics based camp offered during the month of August.

Children are transported to Paget Island in St. George’s Harbour for 5 days of overnight camping.

During that time, the young people experience kayaking, snorkelling, adventure, outward bound, field games, crafts and the famous slip-n-slide.

At the same time the Pequot theme builds an understanding of the native heritage of the Pequot Indians in Bermuda.

All meals provided, this is the only overnight Aquatics based camps in Bermuda.

The Community Centres encourage anyone interested in participating in the summer programme as a client, volunteer or counsellor to contact the community centre in your area.
