FRIDAY, OCT. 5: Carole Holding Ltd today announces it is closing its Front Street operation on November 1 after being based at this location for almost 17 years.

All merchandise and staff will be moved to the company’s three other locations at The Fairmont Southampton; Clocktower Mall in Dockyard; and Heritage Wharf in Dockyard. As a result of the closure, no full-time staff will be made redundant.

Carole Holding, CEO, said: “Unfortunately, without any regular cruise ship planned for Hamilton in the 2013 season and the increased number of tourists from hotels and Dockyard cruise ships who do not visit Hamilton, it no longer makes financial sense for us to have a Front Street location.”

Holland America’s Veendam brought more than 20,000 tourists into Hamilton this year, but the company’s three-year contract to Bermuda ended in August and they decided not to renew and no cruise line was found to bring a ship into Hamilton for 2013.

“This was an extremely difficult, but necessary, decision to make after being located on Front Street for so long.

“I would like to thank all the locals and tourists that have supported my business during this time and look forward to welcoming them to my other locations, particularly in the approach to Christmas. I would also like to thank my employees for their backing.”
