NO. 922

THE BERMUDIAN STATUS BY BIRTH OR GRANT REGISTER ACT 1992

The Bermudian Status by Birth or Grant Register is a list of Bermudians. The register was developed to meet a public demand for a quicker, simpler and cheaper method of satisfying those people who find it necessary to obtain documentation that they are Bermudian.

The Register is a list of names of everyone who was registered to vote in any of the four years 1989 to 1992 except for those without Bermudian status who were registered as electors on 1 May 1976 in accordance with section 55 of the Constitution of Bermuda. The Register also contains corrections resulting from objections made to entries on all previous editions of the Register. In addition, it contains names of people who have been added since 1992. Upon submitting evidence to this Department, these people have proven that they are eligible to be registered as a Bermudian.

The Department is aware that some of the people listed on the Register are now deceased. Those people who the Department knows have died are identified as deceased on the Register.

The Register will be available for inspection at all post offices and the Department of Immigration from the 1 December, 2008 until 1 February 2009, inclusive.

The addresses shown on the Register are the last known addresses of each person, used only to aid in distinguishing between people with the same or similar names.

The public are invited to scrutinise the list of names and to advise the Chief Immigration Officer by way of an Objection Form of:

(a) any errors in their own entry; or

(b) in that of others; or

(c) of any names that should not be on the list.

An error with, or change of, an address does not count as an error because addresses appear only for identification purposes. Objection forms are available from the Department of Immigration.

Subject to the provisions of the Bermudian Status by birth or Grant Register Act 1992, any child who was born in Bermuda on or after 1 July 1956 to a parent who was Bermudian at the time of the child's birth, and that Bermudian parent's name appears on the Register, can have his or her name added onto the Register by completing a simple, explanatory form [Form 5(2)].
