FRIDAY, JAN. 27: Two racing ponies died this morning when a fire broke out at a Paget stables.

Firefighters were called to the stables just off the Railway Trail at 6:30am.

The stables were ablaze and smoke was billowing out from the building.

One person was taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

Fire officers later confirmed that two racing ponies died in the blaze.

A third pony is currently being treated at Ettrick Animal Hospital for serious injuries sustained during the fire.

The fire was brought under control in an hour and 45 minutes.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known, but investigators are at the scene.
