TUESDAY, FEB. 14: A man who stole $125 worth of groceries from Heron Bay MarketPlace was today fined $500.

Anthony Outerbridge, 50, pleaded guilty to stealing three bottles of Cockspur liquor, strawberry jelly, Kraft parmesan cheese, a pack of pens, a block of cheddar cheese, pork chops, lamb chops, ground beef and strip steak on June 30, 2010.

The court heard the store’s manager noticed Outerbridge, of Southampton, was next to the cashier with a duffle bag in his cart.

He paid for the items in the cart and moved over near the liquor cabinet.

The manager saw him shifting items in the grocery bags and his duffle bag and became suspicious.

He asked an employee to watch Outerbridge on the surveillance cameras and he was seen removing bottles of liquor from the shelf.

Outerbridge was then approached by the manager and searched.

He was detained until police arrived.

All the items were retrieved from his bag and in his pockets.

Addressing the court, the defendant said he was a drug addict but has been clean for ten years now.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave him a fine of $500 to be paid immediately or ten days in prison.
