MONDAY, JAN. 23: A self-confessed drug addict appeared in court today facing a string of theft charges.

Jamiko Bean, 30, pleaded not guilty to stealing a Capital G MasterCard and $800 cash from Laura Ming between November 24 and 25 in Southampton.

He also denied stealing:

  • a PlayStation console worth $510 on November 30 in Southampton
  • a Liberty motorcycle valued at $4,700 without consent of the owner on December 5 in Southampton
  • a motorcycle license plate valued at $22 between December 5 and 6 in Warwick
  • a Symax motorcycle valued at $1,500 in Warwick on December 24
  • a laptop valued at $600 in Warwick.

Crown counsel Tawana Tannock told the court Mr Bean is a drug addict who recently completed the drug court programme.

She said he has an “extensive history” of similar offences.

Mr Bean told the court he was given the items by the owners to sell for drugs. When he didn’t return with the drugs, they all called the police.

He also said he was a resident of Focus Treatment Centre.

The defendant was given $2,000 bail with one surety. The matter was adjourned for trial on March 1.
