Every year the Continental Society of Bermuda holds its annual Mother’s Day essay competition. The primary schools of Bermuda are invited to have their students send in a letter stating why they think their mother or guardian, should be ‘Mother of the Year’.

This year the competition was for the Primary Three and Four students only.

A total of 184 essays, from 12 primary schools across the island, were submitted.

This year’s winner, of the Continental Society of Bermuda’s 43rd annual ‘Mother of the Year’ essay competition is Ariandne Ward.

She is a Primary Three student of Dalton E. Tucker Primary School.

This is the second consecutive year that a student from the school has won this competition.

In a loving letter to her mother, Ariandne explains why she loves her mom, what she loves doing with her, the lessons her mom has taught her and what she has always wanted to tell her mom.

A Letter to My Mom

Dear Mom,

WHY I LOVE YOU

You are the one I love the most and that’s because you care for me.

You brought me into this world.

If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be alive. So I thank you.

You’ve always been there for me.

What more could I ask for? You’re the best of them all.

You’re one of a kind and that’s why I love you.

WHAT I LOVE DOING WITH YOU

I love being alone with you mom.

We watch TV while daddy’s gone out.

When I’m scared at night you let me in the bed.

When we’re alone we watch our favourite shows.

Thank you Mom because when I come in bed at night I always feel comfortable.

MOM YOU HAVE TAUGHT ME

Mom you have taught it all, but there are some things I have learned.

You have taught me life lessons.

Here are some you have said: “Playing will not get you through life, you have to pay attention in life and to go on with my life.”

Last, but not least you have taught me to learn how to grow up.

That’s why I’m growing to be a very kind and smart young lady.

And that’s why I’m here today. Love you.

I ALWAYS WANTED TO TELL YOU

Mom I have always wanted to tell you I appreciate you.

Some people in the world aren’t as kind as you are, some parents don’t like their children.

So I’m a very lucky girl. That’s why I appreciate you.

Sincerely,

Ariandne.
