If you are making plans ahead of hurricane season, there is one product you may want to consider.

At this weekend’s Home Show you can see Armor Screen Hurricane Protection up-close.

Bermuda Brickyard will be exhibiting the hurricane screen and staff will be on hand to answer questions.

Manufactured by Armor Screen Corporation of Florida, the see-through, breathable screens are lightweight and easy to install.

Peter Schindel, owner of Bermuda Brickyard, said: “Armor Screen is strong enough to withstand wind, water and projectiles at 276 miles per hour.

Protection

“It can be used to cover individual doors and windows but can also be used to cover an entire porch or verandah.

“The beauty of the screen is that you can leave your outdoor furniture, planters, and other paraphernalia right on the porch, and the wind and rain won’t harm them.

“These screen barriers are engineered to reduce wind speed and water penetration by 90 per cent, while still allowing you to see outside and have cool fresh air.

“We had one happy customer call and say he smoked a cigar on his verandah despite 60 mph winds raging outside.”

Bermuda Brickyard supplies antique, reclaimed bricks, wood and cobblestones for building and renovation, all sourced from Bermuda or the US.

The company states: “Many products are of great historical significance.

“From custom-made hand-forged hardware to the original Boston City Hall pavers, the beauty, value and character of our distinct products cannot be matched.”

It also sells fabricated products such as countertops, pavers, fine stone tiles, Architectural Bronze windows, doors and garden houses.

The materials came old buildings and city roads in the US which were being demolished to make way for new. And Mr Schindel realized there was a market in Bermuda for such products.

He also realized there was a demand for other innovative goods, and began importing Tremron Concrete Pavers in a variety of colours, styles and finishes, for both traditional and modern use.

“These pavers add beauty, value and timeless appeal to any project and can be installed to any shape or pattern in an existing landscape,” said Mr Schindel.

Consultations

“We have installed countless driveways, patios and docks with them in recent years and the finished products are truly works of art.”

He added: “Another of our big sellers is Drivable Grass for a green, and durable driveway or patio.

“It’s strong enough for commercial use for heavy equipment like fire trucks and utility trucks, yet it’s beautiful enough for a home application.

“No matter where it’s installed Drivable Grass helps reduce the ‘Heat Island’ effect produced by regular concrete or asphalt paving found elsewhere.”

Mr Schindel said he hopes the company’s appearance at the Home Show will showcase its products to a wider audience.

“We look forward to speaking to homeowners looking for ideas and answers, and we are always happy to give a free on-site consultations and quotations,” he said.
