All of us at the Bermuda Telephone Company (BTC) look forward to participating in the Home Show every year, as it provides us with the opportunity to spend quality time with our customers.
We are available to answer any questions they may have and to provide advice on broadband solutions to suit their lifestyles.
Education
Each year, our team looks for new and interactive ways to teach consumers how to make the most of what technology has to offer, and we are placing a great deal of focus on consumer education this year.
At the Home Show we will be offering 15-minute ‘InfoTech sessions’ on a variety of topics, ranging from setting up a Facebook page to the basics of home networking.
A schedule will be available with the times and topics at the booth.
‘Gamification’ is a hot topic these days, so for those interested in using online resources to keep their children interested and excited about learning, we have compiled a great list of resources to get you started.
For those that are not familiar with the term, loosely-translated, Gamification means learning through the use of interactive, online tools that look and feel more like games, rather than educational tools.
We will also be promoting one of the programmes we are supporting throughout 2012, in a bid to raise awareness —Youth Camera Action.
This is a summer programme by the Bermuda National Gallery and is a weekly camp that exposes children to the art of photography. It encourages positive expression through the use of visual arts.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to view some of the work created during the programme and was astounded by the quality and level of creativity of those participating.
You may recall that back in November, BTC introduced a new character, a quirky-looking blue creature with a tail that looks like a lightning bolt.
He now has the name Ziggy, thanks to Nelia Cabral, winner of the naming competition.
Ziggy will be the visual focus of our booth at this year’s show.
It’s always the aim of the BTC team to produce a visually-stimulating space and this year we’ve taken it up one more notch with the help of Nelson Pimentel from Signworx.
There’s something going on in every direction and it’s going to be your job to figure out exactly how much.
Enhancements
Last year the BTC team focused on the My Account feature on our website, which allows customers to view billing details and log a trouble ticket if they are having line issues.
The feature provides customers with key information that they can view from the comfort of their home, any time of day or night. Customers can also look forward to My Account enhancements in the near future.
As we are promoting the YCA programme, we thought that a focus on digital photography would be appropriate.
M&M International has been kind enough to provide us with some flat panel TVs and we look forward to sharing an enhanced viewing experience with attendees.
Why crowd around a 20 inch monitor when you can stream or simply slot in your SD card and view your favourite pictures on a 52 inch?
Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a series of fun, interactive games, and there are some great prizes to be had.
The BTC team looks forward to seeing you all at booth number 52.
