John Hindess was called to the bar on Friday. The Marshall Diel & Myers Limited associate is part of that firm’s Litigation and Advice Team.
Mr Hindess said: “I am extremely excited and proud to be returning home to practice law in Bermuda. My time in Canada gave me valuable experience and many friends and colleagues who will be missed. However, I am thrilled to be working for Marshall Diel & Myers Limited and I look forward to growing my practice with the Firm for many years to come. I pride myself on maintaining excellent client relations and my ability to generate creative solutions. I look forward to continuing the Firm’s commitment to providing sound legal support and exceptional client service.”
Kevin Taylor, managing director of MDM, said: “John established a reputation as an extremely effective advocate and negotiator in his practice in Vancouver. He is known for being industrious, versatile and diligent. John will be a very valuable addition to our team. In addition to enhancing our ability to serve our growing client base, the Firm is continuing its commitment to develop the next generation of Bermudian lawyers. We look forward to supporting John as he develops his practice within the Firm.”
Mr Hindess was born and raised in Bermuda. He completed his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) at Queen’s University in Canada, and then obtained his Bachelor of Laws at the University of Warwick. Upon meeting his wife, John travelled back to Canada and took the necessary accreditation courses to be called to the Bar in British Columbia, Canada in 2011. He trained and worked in Vancouver for three years, gaining considerable litigation experience making appearances in all levels of court in British Columbia including the B.C. Court of Appeal. After starting his own family, John decided to return to Bermuda with his wife, Leah, and three year old son, William.
His practice encompasses all aspects of commercial and civil litigation. In his early practice, he gained a broad experience in contract and commercial litigation with an emphasis on construction law. As his practice developed, he expanded his experience and knowledge with a wider variety of litigation matters including family law, privacy law, health law, employment law and administrative law.
While Mr Hindess has extensive advocacy experience and regularly appeared before all levels of court and administrative tribunals in British Columbia, he was also a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals in Vancouver which enabled him to develop and enhance his negotiation, mediation and arbitration skills.
He also has significant drafting experience including employment, construction and contractors’ contracts as well as share and asset purchase agreements, non-disclosure agreements and confidentiality agreements.
