FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21: Jamel Hardtman is the new online sales and marketing executive for the Bermuda Sun.

He has the responsibility of selling for the Sun’s suite of websites: Bermudasun.bm, sunshopper.bm, and sunemployment.bm.

Mr Hardtman previously worked for Inter-Island Communications, which is the parent company of radio station HOTT 107.5 and Magic 102.7, as executive vice president. He left Inter island Communications and earned an MBA from Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island.

Mr Hardtman started at the Bermuda Sun on Monday.

He said: “This is the kind of work that I love to do. With an MBA, most of my friends seem to go the accounting, finance, and insurance route, but I’m not that guy, I prefer sales and marketing. It suits my personality more. This is a very enjoyable position in which I can measure my performance.”

Mr Hardtman has a reputation of being a people person, which he feels is well-suited to his sales and marketing job.

He laughed: “Apparently, I love to talk so this position allows me to communicate with people in person rather than behind a desk on a computer. I love building relationships with people and that’s the part of this job I truly enjoy.

“The great thing about online sales is that it is very easy to measure opposed to other mediums, especially in a small place like Bermuda.

“Most companies, if they don’t already have a website, are developing one. They have links on their websites and can tell when we drive traffic to their home page.”

He said this opportunity makes it easy to demonstrate how effectively an advertising campaign is working. “The Internet and marketing have unlimited potential that has yet to be met. I’m here to try to create new opportunities for our clients on a daily basis.”

Lisa Beauchamp, president of the Bermuda Sun, said: “I am delighted to welcome Jamel Hardtman to the Bermuda Sun team.

“Our clients will benefit enormously not only from Jamel’s wealth of media sales experience, but also his infectious enthusiasm and innovative ideas. We cover news and events seven days a week on our website and this creates a wonderful marketing opportunity for our clients. Jamel is the ideal person to help us capitalize on our constantly increasing web traffic.”
