Just a week before the happy couple's big wedding day, it will be the groom who will be all dressed in white.

Somerset player Sammy Robinson will be taking on St. George's Cricket Club in this year's Cup Match - just seven days before he and fiancee Naquita Dill walk down the aisle.

The couple have been planning their wedding for almost a year and say it is pure coincidence that their nuptials fall so close to the groom's first Cup Match game in nearly a decade.

Search for a venue

"We wanted to get married earlier but we couldn't find an available venue in July," Mr. Robinson said of the wedding which will take place at St. John's Anglican Church on Saturday August 9.

However, Mr. Robinson said, cricket has always been a part of their relationship.

"We first met at a cricket game 13 years ago through a mutual friend," he explained. "A year later we met again at another cricket game and we have been dating for the past 12 years."

"He was a player against my team, Bailey's Bay," Miss Dill added. "I said to my friend, 'I just have to meet him!'"

Last year Mr. Robinson proposed to his girlfriend, a PE teacher at T.N. Tatem Middle School, on board a cruise ship - over a romantic dinner.

Only thing was it was in front of more than 50 relatives.

"The cruise was part of our family reunion," Mr. Robinson explained. "If she'd said no in front of all of those people what would I have done? I probably would have cried!"

Big game

But despite the fact that he will be getting married only a week after Cup Match, he said he won't be distracted for the 'big game.' "After Cup Match I will start concentrating on the wedding," he said.

"He's gonna be all about cricket - I pretty much won't exist those two (Cup Match) days," Miss Dill laughed.

Miss. Dill, whose brother plays cricket for Bailey's Bay but is "100 per cent" a Somerset fan, will of course be at the game to cheer on her man.

"She is a big cricket fan, someone who is going to support me," Mr. Robinson said. "She is a big sport's person herself."

St. George's cricketer OJ Pitcher will be among the wedding party - despite the fact that he plays for the rival team!
