FRIDAY, MAR. 16: Everyone knows these are tough economic times for Bermuda businesses – the real question is how to navigate it through these choppy waters.

Bermuda’s Emerging Professionals (BEPRO) has brought together four experts for its upcoming Lunch and Learn entitled “Jump Start Your Business — Tips from the Pros”.

This will be held on March 22 from 12 to 1pm at the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce.

The guest speakers are Kerry Judd of New Beginnings Inc., Kumi Bradshaw of Firm Advisory Ltd, Alexandra Mosher of Alexandra Mosher Studio Jewellery, and small business advisor Jamillah Lodge from the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.

The seminar will be free for members and $10 for non-members.

Carrie Thatcher, BEPRO public relations officer said: “This highly anticipated Lunch and Learn will focus primarily on how to get your business off the ground, what to expect in being your own boss and the various steps that you need to be aware of before starting on the entrepreneurial path.

“Our distinguished panel of speakers are all successful entrepreneurs, and/or experienced business advisors, whose trials and tribulations will be priceless for those looking to start their own business on the island.”

Kerry Judd, owner of New Beginnings Inc., has over 12 years of experience within the provisions of marketing, communication and organizational strategy; both locally and internationally.

Originally launched in January 2010 out of a desire for personal fulfilment and engagement in projects that truly make a positive impact on peoples’ lives, New Beginnings Inc. is now a successful Bermudian business.

The foundation of the business is in distinguishing the core values of the clients’ organization and further translating those values into actual employee and customer/client experiences.

Ms. Judd uses a non-traditional, refreshingly ‘human’ and transparent approach to achieve her clients’ success.

Kumi Bradshaw CBA, BVAL, president of Firm Advisory Ltd., serves on the Accreditation Board of the Institute of Business Appraisers as well as the Editorial Board of Business Appraisal Practice.

His company, Firm Advisory Ltd, is a provider of business valuation, business brokerage and advisory services.

In the summer of 2010, the first edition of Mr Bradshaw’s book, Show Me the Money! Understanding the Value of Your Business, was published. Intended as a layperson’s guide to business value issues, the book is currently available in local bookstores as well as on Amazon.com.

Ms Mosher, owner of Alexandra Mosher Studio Jewellery, is no stranger to BEPRO having previously served on the board of directors.

Ms Mosher studied jewellery design, wax carving and fabrication at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, The JCC Manhattan and Wolf Studios in Maine.

She launched her jewellery line in 2005; and today has clients in Bermuda, America, Canada and Europe.

Ms Lodge, Business Development Officer at the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, is BEPRO’s business advisory expert.

Ms Lodge is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University, graduating with a Business Administration degree with a concentration in Marketing.

In her duties at BEDC, she is responsible for providing clients with business development advice and loan guarantee assistance.

In addition, Ms. Lodge manages the BEDC marketing and communications plan and is currently involved in the development of a mentorship and youth entrepreneurship programme.
