WEDNESDAY, FEB. 22: There has not been much optimism for the car industry in Bermuda for the past few years.

Retail sales have plummeted by over 50 per cent as dealers struggled for customers.

So Saturday’s City of Hamilton Car Show could be the spark that helps crank the ignition of the industry.

Danilee Trott, event project manager, for the City of Hamilton, said the Car Show will bring together dealers, accessory shops, and bankers so people can look to see what their options are.

“I’d love to see some automobile dealers sell some cars and come back and say ‘This was helpful to us. This was worth it — Let’s do it again.’ They have already asked us to do another one.”

She said this should also be a win-win situation for customers.

“This is great, not only for people who are trying to buy a car at this exact moment, but for those who want to see the options that are out there.”

She said both Butterfield Bank and Colonial will be there so customers can know what they will need to do to get a loan in order to purchase a car. “They’ll be able to get quotes on loans right there.”

We’re trying to do a one-stop shop.”

With music, a video games section and food stalls, she said:  “It’s going to be a nice outing for the whole family.”
